A stylish townhouse in the heart of York.

107 Nunnery Lane - a House of York holiday home is a stylish townhouse with courtyard by the historic city walls and is just a 5 min walk into the centre of York. With 3 luxurious bedrooms and its own basement cinema it's perfect for friends or families. Parking is available and we're a 10 min walk from the station. 107 is located off ‘Bishy Road’ (voted Britain’s best high street) with its independent shops, pubs, restaurants, cafes & delis. You can also rent next door (109 Nunnery Lane) allowing bookings of up to 11.

We pride ourselves on being couples and family friendly and we offer as much as we can to make your stay an enjoyable one. After a fun day sight seeing you can have drinks in our sunny courtyard or chill out and watch a movie in our basement cinema (it was the original pub cellar and has a low ceiling). For the kids (or the young at heart) we even have a games room with table football.

All guests are greeted with freshly baked cake and everything needed to make a good cuppa. If you are bringing little ones we have a high chair, cot and a variety of games and books available on request.

We always make sure we supply the basics (having ourselves been frustrated by no dishwashing liquid or bin bags at rentals). We have USB charging ports in every room as well as cleaning equipment, store cupboard basics and the bathroom has soap, shower gel and shampoo. We try to take any of the stress out of your stay so you can focus on enjoying the house and magnificent York!

Entrance and Hall

Once you enter the townhouse from the main street you are greeted by a sense of calm and quiet before heading into the living room (or upstairs).

  • Stanley and Ramona's - great coffee and a lovely outdoor space to watch the world go by

  • If you want to cook dinner then you can't go wrong with Millys for great fruit and veg and M&K Butchers for fantastic meat and home made pies - and anything else you need can be bought from the Sainsburys local or Costcutter thats open till late.

  • If you fancy a meal out then Bishy Road has everything including British, Indian, Chinese and Italian restaurants - and all a 2 min walk from the cottage.

But don't just listen to us.....

The Guardian says - ‘a Goldilocks neighbourhood where everything is just right’

The Times put it in its top ten ‘cool list’ of places to live

Parking and getting around

Public Transport

The train station is just a 10 minute walk and there are taxies and Ubers everywhere, but the best way to see York is by foot and as you are just 5 minutes away from getting on to the city walls where you can get access to the best views and attractions the city has to offer! If you don't fancy walking the walls the stop for the sightseeing buses is at the end of our road.

We suggest if you have a lot of bags, you initially park by the house to unload. The house is 107 Nunnery Lane and the postcode is YO23 1AH and there is 10 minute drop off parking on Spencer Street which is the first left immediately after the property.

We have a deal with a private car park a 2 minute walk away for £5 per day - as far as we know this is the cheapest parking available in central York. There is also a public car park 2 minutes walk away for £13 per day.

Electric vehicle charging

There is a number of electric and rapid electric charging points available in Nunnery Lane long stay car park which is a 2 minute walk away.

York is super bike friendly and there is some great cycle tracks through the city and out into the countryside. If you want to bring your bikes you can use the houses secure courtyard to store your bike.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The location is perfect and the centre of York only a short walk away. The house was very clean and well equipped with everything we needed for our stay. We really appreciated the little touches of fresh milk and homemade cakes, the offer of a later check out if required and the clear information regarding check in and parking. Thank you so much, would recommend a stay here without hesitation.

109 Nunnery lane is a beautiful house in a great location to see the sights of York. I short walk from the city centre with great local amenities on the nearby Bishopthorpe Road. We had an incredible stay and Claire’s hospitality was second to none.

Me and a group of friends had a brilliant stay at Claire's house. It was spacious, clean and comfy and a great location for walking in to town and getting to the train station. Claire had lots of recommendations for restaurants and pubs nearby which we found really helpful - we especially loved the Pig and Pastry and a pizza restaurant called Angel on the Green which were both delicious and really close to the house! Claire was flexible with her check in and check out times and let us store our luggage in the house after our check out which was perfect as our train home wasn't til the evening. Claire was quick to respond to messages and went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed for an enjoyable stay. Thanks for having us Claire!
