A cosy spacious cottage in the heart of York.

109 Nunnery Lane - A House of York holiday home is by York’s city walls. This cosy and luxurious 3 bed cottage with small courtyard is the perfect getaway for couples or families. We're a 10 minute walk from the station (parking is available) and a 7 minute stroll into York centre with its cultural, historic, gastronomic & shopping delights. Best of all its situated just off ‘Bishy Road’ (voted Britain’s best high street) where you will find award winning independent shops, pubs, restaurants, coffee shops, delis and takeaways.

We pride ourselves on being family friendly and we offer as much as we can to make your stay an enjoyable one. All guests are greeted with freshly baked cake and everything needed to make a good cuppa. If you are bringing little ones we have a high chair, cot and a variety of games and books available on request.

We always make sure we supply the basics (having ourselves been frustrated by no dishwashing liquid or bin bags at rentals). We have USB charging ports in every room as well as cleaning equipment, store cupboard basics and the bathroom has soap, shower gel and shampoo. We try to take any of the stress out of your stay so you can focus on enjoying the house and magnificent York!

Entrance and Hall

Once you enter the cottage from the main street you are greeted by a sense of calm and quiet, hang up your coats and hats in the hallway and head into the living room (or upstairs).

Living Area

As you walk into the main living area and you will already start to feel at home as you tuck into the freshly baked cake waiting for you - perfect with a drink after your journey.

Kitchen, dining and utility area

Wonder through to the kitchen and dining area (its open plan) and you'll see you have everything you need to make proper family meals, picnics or to serve up a takeaway. You will also find a comfortable dining table that seats up to 5 next to the original tiled fire place.

At the back of the kitchen there's a laundry area with an easy to use washing machine and tumble dryer. A full size ironing board and iron is also available in the walk in closet.

Master Bedroom

Take a trip upstairs and you will pass the bathroom before coming to the master bedroom where you can curl up with a drink and watch the world go by on the cozy window seats or get a great nights sleep in the king size bed.

Attic Bedroom

Head upstairs and you will find the attic bedroom, a quiet relaxing sanctuary bathed in natural light from Velux windows. Here you will find a double bed and a SMART TV with a Netflix and Freeview (great for the kids).

Single Bedroom

Opposite the master bedroom and next to the bathroom you will find this snug single bedroom which is a perfect room for child or adult. There is plenty of storage, and a lovely cast iron single bed by the original fireplace. And for our young visitors it has its own resident teddy!

Family Bathroom

You will find the house bathroom on the second floor. Here you will find a large bath with side taps, so that you can lie back and relax. There is also a separate cubicle with a shower and a large sink and toilet. You will also find plenty of storage space for your toiletries and the bathroom has hand towels, Scottish Fine Sea Kelp hand wash, body wash, shampoo and conditioner. In addition to hand towels we provide two high quality and fluffy towels per guest.

The door at the back of the kitchen takes you into your small but beautiful south-facing courtyard with a table and chairs that are perfect for pre-dinner drinks on a sunny day.

  • If you fancy a meal out then Bishy Road has everything including British, Indian, Chinese and Italian restaurants - and all a 2 min walk from the cottage.

The Times put it in its top ten ‘cool list’ of places to live

Parking and getting around

Public Transport

The train station is just a 10 minute walk and there are taxies and Ubers everywhere, but the best way to see York is by foot and as you are just 5 minutes away from getting on to the city walls where you can get access to the best views and attractions the city has to offer! If you don't fancy walking the walls the stop for the sightseeing buses is at the end of our road.

We suggest if you have a lot of bags, you initially park by the house to unload. The house is 109 Nunnery Lane and the postcode is YO23 1AH and there is 10 minute drop off parking on Spencer Street which is the first left immediately after the property.

We have a deal with a private car park a 2 minute walk away for £5 per day - as far as we know this is the cheapest parking available in central York. There is also a public car park 2 minutes walk away for £13 per day.

Electric vehicle charging

There is a number of electric and rapid electric charging points available in Nunnery Lane long stay car park which is a 2 minute walk away.

York is super bike friendly and there is some great cycle tracks through the city and out into the countryside. If you want to bring your bikes you can use the houses secure courtyard to store your bike.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The location is perfect and the centre of York only a short walk away. The house was very clean and well equipped with everything we needed for our stay. We really appreciated the little touches of fresh milk and homemade cakes, the offer of a later check out if required and the clear information regarding check in and parking. Thank you so much, would recommend a stay here without hesitation.

109 Nunnery lane is a beautiful house in a great location to see the sights of York. I short walk from the city centre with great local amenities on the nearby Bishopthorpe Road. We had an incredible stay and Claire’s hospitality was second to none.

Me and a group of friends had a brilliant stay at Claire's house. It was spacious, clean and comfy and a great location for walking in to town and getting to the train station. Claire had lots of recommendations for restaurants and pubs nearby which we found really helpful - we especially loved the Pig and Pastry and a pizza restaurant called Angel on the Green which were both delicious and really close to the house! Claire was flexible with her check in and check out times and let us store our luggage in the house after our check out which was perfect as our train home wasn't til the evening. Claire was quick to respond to messages and went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed for an enjoyable stay. Thanks for having us Claire!
